Children learn through catchy songs or rhymes, but have you ever wondered why singing is such a great way to learn?
- When we learn new information that has a tune attached to it, we are more likely to remember it in the long-term as it becomes embedded in our minds quickly and easily
- Learning through songs is fun and increases enjoyment in learning
- Singing lends itself to learning through repetition- the more you repeat something, the more likely you are to learn it, and it is easy and fun to listen to a song many times over
- Singling contributes to a child’s emotional wellbeing
It is most likely that your children learnt the English alphabet by singing a song, so I thought that it would be a great idea to find an equivalent song for the Greek alphabet. Although it’s a simple idea, when I searched YouTube for “Greek alphabet song”, I was disappointed to find that the first few searches were songs of the Greek alphabet, spoken in English (i.e alpha, beta, gamma etc.).
My children, husband and I decided to make our own Greek alphabet song and post it on YouTube. It was such an enjoyable and fulfilling experience! My husband has a home studio and he recorded the kids singing the alphabet song. He also recorded my son playing the keyboard and then added drums as well. I made a video to accompany the song and then we uploaded it onto YouTube. Below is the link to the video. Please have a listen and let me know what you think (Disclaimer- the video is not perfect- I’m new to the whole movie-making business).

In a previous post, I talked about learning through games and I included a downloadable Bingo board for the Greek alphabet, as well as other resources to help children enrich their Greek vocabulary.

Thank you! I hope the kiddies like it 🙂 xx
Fantastic Blog. Really enjoyed reading.
Hi. I love your song! Can you tell me what the extra words are either side of omega please? And also what the last sentence is?
Thank yooooooo ❤️
Thanks for your comment. The word before omega is ‘ke’ which means ‘and’. The words after it mean “I said. Now you know the alphabet” 😀
It’s fabulous my 2 year old son loves it. This is the only song on YouTube where you can learn the Greek alphabet properly.
